1. What is Chiropractic?

Since 1895 Chiropractic has been working primarily with spinal misalignments (vertebral subluxations), but also cares for other joints of the body. Chiropractic does not treat any disease and or symptom you may have; by removing spinal misalignments (subluxations) the body is better able to heal itself by restoring nerve communication to all parts of the body, allowing the body to better “heal itself”. Many symptoms one experiences can be the result of spinal misalignments creating a communication problem between the brain and other parts of the body. Poor nutrition, genetic problems and consumption of toxic substances, such as man made drugs and or man made environmental toxins will and do cause poor health as well.

2. Chiropractic is not!

  • Massage
  • Physical therapy
  • Does not prescribe any pharmaceutical drugs
  • Osteopathy

3. All age groups can benefit from Chiropractic care?

I was personally trained by Dr. Larry Webster (1988), Life University, Marietta Georgia U.S.A. Dr. Webster was the founder of the “International Chiropractic Pediatric Association” (ICPA) and one of the first Chiropractors to emphasize specific spinal and pelvic care throughout the term of pregnancy for women, greatly facilitating an uninhibited natural birth.

  • Babies, full spinal and pelvic care, specializing in the upper cervical region (Occiput, Atlas, Axis)
  • Women throughout their pregnancy (fewer complications with the birthing process)
  • Small Children, Teenagers
  • Adults, Elderly
  • Athletes

4. What joints of the body does Dr. Elkins work on?

Dr. Elkins is trained to care for all the joints of the body with an “emphasis” on the spinal joints, which help to protect the 31 pairs of branching nerves coming from the spinal cord.

5. Dr. Elkins incorporates many Chiropractic adjusting techniques in his practice?

  • The Chiropractic adjustment is a specific force applied to two or more osseous structures forming a joint articulation (an example would be two vertebrae and or other joints of the body, such as the knee or shoulder). This specific adjustment force is administered at the correct velocity, time, direction and depth. The Chiropractic adjustment is not considered a non-specific manipulation.

  • All Chiropractic methods of adjusting are designed to help meet the needs of each patient. Some patients may require a very low force technique (such as babies, small children, the elderly and or very sensitive people), while others may require a more forceful technique. Also individuals who have had a recent injury will require a low force adjusting technique.

  • Since 1989 Dr. Elkins has developed a special technique to care for the Occiput, Atlas and Axis located in the upper cervical region. This method is called the Elkins Occipital Procedure, cervical and pelvic protocols.

6. Is Chiropractic safe?

Chiropractors who have graduated from an Accredited College are well trained to perform spinal and or other osseous adjustments in a safe manner.

The education is similar to medical school having a broad understanding of all systems of the body; however, the Chiropractic approach is based on the laws of nature “avoiding” the use of any man made toxic drugs, all of which have negative side affects for the body.

7. Who is qualified to care for your spine and or other joints of the body?

a) Questions you should ask:

  • Where did you receive your Chiropractic degree and or other training to be qualified to adjust (move) spinal vertebra and or other articular joints back to their correct position?
  • How many hours of study were required for the degree or diploma you were given?

b) Chiropractors have approximately 4500 total hours of combined classroom and hands on training. This is approximately 200 hours more than a Medical Doctor trained in general Medicine.

8. Dr. Elkins cares not only for the joints of the spine.

  • Shoulder problems such as Frozen shoulder
  • Elbow problems such as Tennis elbow
  • Hand problems, such as Carpal tunnel
  • Knee and or Hip problems, pain walking up and down stairs or in the mountains
  • Foot and ankle problems
(Before you purchase orthotics for your shoes, have your feet, knees, hip and pelvic region checked by Dr. Richard Elkins)

9. Is Chiropraktik expensive?

  • It depends on the nature of your problem and which Chiropractor you go to. Many Chiropractors have their patients including children come in between 7 to 15 visits during the initial care plan.

  • With the Elkins Pulse Stretching Method most adults only require 3 visits, while babies, and small children only require 2 visits.
See section 18, “How many visits until I am released from care?”

11. Chiropractic is “not” only for lower back and/or neck pain

  • The pharmaceutical companies want people to believe Chiropractic “ONLY” addresses pain, which is very far from the truth.

  • Ninety percent of the symptoms a person experiences “can be the result of a vertebra being misaligned from its normal position (vertebral subluxation)” resulting in abnormal nerve flow to the organs and tissues of the body.

  • Ten percent of most health issues can be the result of some type of genetic problem, a poor diet and or exposure to man made chemicals and or toxins.

  • Proper diet, exercise and detoxifying the body are all very important factors promoting health.

12. Chiropractic does not treat any disease, pathology and/or symptom.

  • Chiropractic helps the body to work better (cure or heal itself) by placing misaligned spinal vertebrae (subluxations)” back into their correct position. This helps the body to restore proper flow of energy (nerve impulses) between the brain and all parts of the body naturally, typically without the need of man made chemicals.

  • You have your own built in natural pharmacy. By creating the correct natural environment for the body inside and outside we can obtain health.

  • Proper nerve flow (eliminating spinal subluxations) along with a balanced diet, exercise and keeping stress to a minimum all play a vital role in one’s overall health.

  • Good health is the by-product of living within the laws of “nature”.

13. I have a herniated disc but “never” had an accident, why did this happen?

  • Prior to a herniation of the spinal disc most people have a chronic spinal misalignment (subluxation).

  • Almost every chronic spinal subluxation is the result of the musculature not being balanced due to the things we do 24-hours a day.

  • Misaligned joints (subluxated) including spinal joints create inflammation.

  • The 31 pair of spinal nerves and another pair of nerves called the autonomic nerves that control the organs, blood vessels and glands of the body are both very close to the spinal joints and as such the inflammation in and around the spinal joints can cause irritation to these nerves resulting in some type of symptom; musculoskeletal and/ or organic in nature.

  • Pain is only one of the many symptoms caused by vertebral subluxations.

  • When you treat the inflammation, (the symptom) by performing injections and or using other drug based therapies, typically the subluxated joints of the vertebra are never corrected and as such continues to place stress on the disc. The disc over time slowly degenerates due to micro-tears until the semi liquid material (nucleus pulposus) contained within the disc herniates out further irritating the spinal nerve/s or spinal cord causing more health problems. Chiropractic care along with daily stretching is a “natural” way to avoid having a herniated disc in the first place.

  • Many people after they receive an injection for the inflammation feel better; however the same problem comes back relatively quickly because the underling problem has not been addressed (imbalanced musculature creating a misaligned vertebrae). Eventually this type of therapy (pain therapy) only promotes the degenerative process of the spinal disc until it herniates. Next you are advised to operate on the disc, which in “most” cases never should have happened if the cause of the problem was addressed in the first place.

14. If I have had a herniated disc can Chiropractic help me to avoid lower back surgery?

  • Yes, it is possible, but not in all cases.

  • By placing the vertebrae joints back into their correct position this helps to do two things: (1) it reduces chronic rotational stress or tension on the disc and when the vertebrae and its associated joints are in their correct position (2) this also reduces the amount of inflammation in and around the spinal joints helping to speed up the body’s own healing process.

  • Note that any time one has damaged a tendon, ligament and or spinal disc it will never be like it was before. The person will always have chronic problems in the area of the herniated disc and also above or below the herniated disc because the injured disc cannot do the work it was intended to do, so the discs above and below the herniation must work harder.

15. How long does it take for a herniated disc to heal?

  • A herniated disc (extrusion of the jelly-like semi-liquid material within the disc from its normal location) typically requires 6-months to a year to fully heal. Like all ligament and or tendon injuries the herniated disc never will be the same as the original disc.

  • Healing can be faster when performing the correct therapeutic exercises and avoiding undo physical stress on the disc for the first 2 to 3 weeks after the herniation has occurred.

16. I have a herniated disc, when is surgery necessary?

  • When the pain remains moderate to severe and no therapy helps to reduce this pain.

  • When the person begins to lose substantial motor control (muscle movement is restricted due to spinal nerve and or spinal cord irritation) and it continues to worsen.

  • When the person loses substantial sensory stimulation (can not feel parts of their extremities, leg/s or arm/s).

  • When the muscles affected by the spinal nerve or spinal cord irritation cause muscle wasting (the muscle/s gradually become smaller than the non- affected side).

17. Symptom Care or Health Care?

  • A minimum of 350,000 people each year in the USA alone die as a result of symptom based health care.

  • Symptoms are the body’s way of telling us we have a problem. Most of the time the symptom is merely the by-product of the underlying problem and not the problem itself.

  • Treating the symptom/s merely promotes future health issues thus guaranteeing perpetual revenue for the pharmaceutical industry and those health care providers who administer symptom based care, while the underlying health problem goes untreated.

  • Preventative natural health care is always much better than crisis based symptom health care.

18. How many visits until I am released from care?

When patients combine the Elkins Pulse Stretching Method with Chiropractic you can expect the following.

  • Three visits for 85% of the people.
  • Four to five visits for 10% of the people, normally over the age of 18 years.
  • Two visits for 2.5% of the adults, teenagers, small children and babies.
  • Seven or more visits for 2.5% of the people, normally over the age of 30.

19. Preventative visits each year and how to determine when you should be checked.

  • The number of visits will vary for each person depending on their overall health profile, life style, age, stretching regime and previous musculoskeletal injuries.

  • A minimum of 2 visits is recommended each year for all ages, some people will require more.

  • Typically, the first symptom for a “subluxation” (misaligned or blocked vertebra) is tight muscles. Normally one side of the body will be tighter than the other side of the body. After 3 to 4-days of stretching and the tightness does not go away then it’s recommended to be checked by a Chiropractor.

  • When the patient is checked a minimum of one visit each year the fee remains at the basic set price for each age group.

20. Below is a list of health issues typically improved and or resolved with Chiropractic care.

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Dizziness
  • High blood pressure
  • Vision problems
  • Thyroid problems
  • Adrenal glands
  • Tinnitus
  • Vision Changes
  • Gastrointestinal track (stomach, Large and small Intestine, and rectum)
  • Painful menstruation
  • Breathing problems such as asthma
  • Better sleep, improved energy, more alert, improved posture, better concentration.
  • Tingling and / or pain down the arms or legs
  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Sciatic nerve problem due to spinal misalignments (subluxations)
  • Disc herniation’s (vertebral joints in their correct position allows for faster healing)

Extremity Problems

  • Carpal tunnel (normally a misalignment of one or more carpal bones in the hand together with a misaligned cervical vertebra)
  • Tennis elbow
  • Cold feet and hands
  • Numbness in the hands and feet
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Chronic Hip Pain
  • Chronic Knee pain
  • Foot and ankle problems
Note: Not all health issues are the result of a misaligned spinal vertebra (subluxation).

21. Is my problem something else other than a Vertebral Misalignment (subluxation)?

  • The cause of the problem could be related to a genetic problem, or diet related, or from man made environmental toxins such as high altitude chemicals being sprayed from airplanes everyday worldwide (chem-trails). Drug based therapy all have side effects because of their toxic nature. Typically eliminating one symptom only will give rise to another health crisis, while the cause of the health problem goes untreated.

  • It is important to note that all organs have a direct connection to muscles, and muscles to organs, so when organs become filled with man made toxins this can create a chronic muscle imbalance, which can in turn cause chronic joint misalignments (subluxations), and that would include spinal joints as well.

  • A balanced lifestyle is accomplished by reducing outside stresses in various forms; these stresses typically have an adverse affect on the muscular system, which in turn creates spinal subluxations (misaligned spinal joints).
  • Nerve communication between the brain and other tissues of the body are compromised resulting in many types of health problems, pain being one of them.
  • Keeping the muscles balanced by stretching will limit the frequency of spinal subluxations and or other joint misalignment.
  • The Elkins Pulse Stretching Method is a simple way to help keep the muscles balanced and also can be used as a diagnostic tool to determine when you should schedule an appointment with a Chiropractor.

For more information see section (26):
How can I test myself to see if I may have a spinal misalignment (subluxation)?

22. Other conditions which can and do create a muscular imbalance resulting in vertebral and or other joint misalignments (subluxations).

  • Genetic problems such as a structural scoliosis, and or unilateral (one side only) damage to a joint, ligament, tendon or muscle will and do create chronic joint misalignments (subluxations).

  • If a muscle is not functioning because of a “stroke” (cerebral Vascular Accident) this also will create a chronic joint misalignment (subluxation). Both (A) and (B) make up perhaps less than 5% of all muscle imbalances.

  • Most muscle imbalances are simply the result of repetitive daily activities not being performed in a balanced way, which can be greatly helped by implementing the Elkins Pulse Stretching Method.

23. Do Chiropractors adjust atlas (the first cervical vertebra)?

  • Chiropractors have been adjusting atlas since 1895 using a variety of methods or techniques.

  • Students must learn a minimum of 4 adjusting techniques to correct the atlas vertebra.

24. Will the Atlas vertebra remain in its correct position only after one adjustment or treatment?

“No, it will not”!

  • Just like all joints of the body when the musculature is not balanced the joints and their associated vertebrae or bones will become misaligned or subluxated. So yes, atlas will and does become misaligned throughout one’s lifetime. There’s only one group I know of (Atlasprofilax) who are advertising this “illusion” of a one-time treatment of atlas. How do I know it’s an illusion?

  • Many of their patients come to me and I still find a misaligned (subluxated) atlas.

  • Most of the patients (75%) coming to me after having been treated with the Atlasprofilax method said they either felt no change or worse after this preventative treatment of atlas.

  • The other 25% felt better; however, within 1 to 3 months the same symptom came back.

  • This group describes atlas as being malrotated, not subluxated, they carefully avoid any terminology used by the Chiropractic profession in an effort to try and promote their method as being something “new”.

  • This group logs in a total of 5-weeks of training before they can care for the Atlas vertebra. In my opinion this is like taking a person qualified to fly a 2-seater small aircraft then letting them pilot a jumbo-jet full of people. In my opinion no one should be adjusting or caring for the atlas vertebra with only 5-weeks of training.

25. Can Chiropractic reduce the annual healthcare costs for Corporations and socialized medicine?

Yes, it can, if given the chance!

  • Since both Corporate and social healthcare are dominated by allopathic medicine (drug based therapy) the true nature of the problem goes untreated. Symptom care is costly because it almost never addresses the problem thereby perpetuating further health crises only to be once again treated by drugs. The only winner in this case is the Pharmaceutical Companies.

  • Past literary research has proven beyond a doubt that the social healthcare system is politically motivated to feed the chauffer’s of Big Pharma and the Central Banking cartel. By ignoring the obvious benefits of preventative healthcare, Corporations that are predominately drug based will pay higher annual costs to run their companies and in the end the consumer will pick up the tab for this type of symptom based care in the form of a “mandatory tax”. Corporations are forced to pay into this system. The only choice they have is what Big Pharma and the Central Bankers have prescribed, all of which is methodically and carefully executed by the political social agenda. When people have a better understanding of what true healthcare really is, only then will they demand that the existing symptom based healthcare system be dismantled and replaced with preventative natural therapies.

  • The corporate arena can choose to reduce their annual healthcare cost by implementing Chiropractic as a form of preventative healthcare rather than crisis intervention. The total number of “man-hours lost” due to disc herniation’s and or lower back and neck pain alone would save corporations 50% of what they are currently spending annually for symptom based forms of healthcare, and that does not include many other health problems which could be prevented by using Chiropractic and or other forms of natural health care.

  • Dr. Elkins is well aware of the financial losses a company experiences trying to keep their workers healthy so they can perform their work in a more efficient way. Dr. Elkins is prepared to assist large and or small companies within the corporate sector in an endeavor to drastically reduce their annual financial losses using preventative based healthcare methods.

26. How can I test myself to see if I may have a spinal misalignment (subluxation)?

Since many health issues can be the bi-product of nerve interference resulting from a spinal misalignment (subluxation), one should know how to determine if they have a spinal misalignment.

  • Typically, the first symptom for a spinal misalignment (subluxation) is not “pain” it is an imbalance in the musculature where one or more muscles are unilaterally (one side of the body) tighter than the other side.

  • One can simply determine if a spinal misalignment exists by stretching the musculature of the upper and lower body over a 3 to 4-day period of time. Perform each stretching position the same, right or left, which will help you to find the tighter muscles.

  • While stretching most people will find several areas where the musculature is not balanced. After 3 to 4 days of stretching the muscles while focusing more on the tighter areas one should notice that the musculature is either balanced or not balanced.

  • If after 3-4 days the musculature is not balanced (having the same flexibility) then its is likely that you have a vertebral misalignment (subluxation) and should have your spinal vertebra and or other joints of the body checked by a trained Chiropractor.
